FAQ and troubleshooting
Short answers to the questions every new Outer user asks — and what to do when a deploy fails.
Building
What can I build?
Anything the Ilha + Void template expresses, backed by D1, KV, Durable Objects, R2, queues, cron and realtime. Starters with copy-paste prompts: What you can build.
How long does a change take?
Seconds to about a minute: build → review → deploy, then the URL serves the new version. The tool call that made the change waits and reports back — your agent doesn’t need to poll.
My app is slow to answer the first request.
The fleet sleeps after ~30 minutes without requests and wakes on the next one — that first request pays the cold start. It adopts the newest deploy when it wakes.
The page shows a “paused / building / held” screen instead of my app.
Those are proxy-owned pages, not your code: the app has no successful deploy yet, is paused over quota, or is held/suspended by moderation. Ask your agent for the deploy status; Moderation explains holds.
Sign-in and accounts
Which clients sign in with OAuth?
Claude, Codex, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. Anything else uses the emailed-code fallback: Sign in.
Do I need an invite code?
During the closed beta, allowlisted emails get in directly; everyone else
pastes an OUTER-XXXX-XXXX code at sign-in or lands on the waitlist. One
code admits one account. Your own codes live on the console’s Invites page.
How do I revoke a client or a key?
Console → Connections & keys, or revoke_connection / revoke_api_key
over MCP.
Plans and limits
Free vs Pro?
1 app and 50 code changes a day vs 10 apps and 500 — full table: Plans. Billing isn’t live yet, so every account is on Free during the beta.
What happens at 100% of a quota?
Change/build/app/collaborator limits refuse with quota_exceeded plus a
user_message your agent relays verbatim. Requests, storage or outbound
traffic at 100% on Free pause the app until the month resets — data is kept.
Deploys
The deploy failed. What now?
Paste the log tail back to your agent and ask for the fix. Build errors
name the file and line; commit returns failed with the log. Never edit
around the gate — fix the cause and commit again.
The deploy is blocked. What now?
blocked means the pre-live review flagged page text: commit returns the
file, the line, and an excerpt. Fix those lines and commit again — a blocked
deploy keeps the previous version serving and counts as a code change. What
trips it: Moderation.
How do I undo?
rollback to any earlier successful SHA (Console → Deploys → Roll back). Never counts
as a change, never a moderation target.
Where are the logs?
Running app: Console → Logs, or app_logs. Build: expand the deploy, or
deploy_log. Crashes grouped: Console → Errors, or app_errors.
Data and domains
Can my app send email?
Only through an HTTP email API like Resend with your own key — never SMTP (ports blocked) and never Void’s native sender (Email).
Can I use my own domain?
Yes, one hostname per app on Pro, via Cloudflare for SaaS: Custom domains.
Can I export my code?
Pro, via export_code — an archive, good for 24 hours. There is no git
push; agents change code with commit.
Getting help
Ask your agent first — it reads these docs over MCP. If a tool refuses
something, its user_message is the answer; have the agent relay it word
for word instead of working around it. During the closed beta there is no
self-serve moderation appeal: relay the message and fix the flagged lines.
