title: Sign in
description: OAuth for Claude, Codex, ChatGPT and Perplexity; the emailed-code fallback and API keys for everything else.
---

One Outer account is one email address. There are two ways in, both ending
at the same account.

## OAuth (Claude, Codex, ChatGPT)

Just use a tool. Your client opens Outer's sign-in page:

1. Enter your email. During the closed beta, an email that is not allowed in gets "Outer is in closed beta. You're on the waitlist."
2. Enter the 6-digit code from your inbox.
3. On first sign-in only, accept the Terms and Privacy Policy.
4. Approve the client ("Allow Claude to create, change and delete apps on your Outer account?").

The client retries the call with its new token. You can revoke a client any
time with the `list_connections` / `revoke_connection` tools.

## Email code fallback (no OAuth in your client)

For scripts, older clients and agent harnesses without OAuth:

1. `sign_in` with your email — Outer emails a 6-digit code (10-minute expiry, 5 attempts).
2. Ask your human for the code, then `verify_code` with your email, the code, and `accept_terms: true` on first use.
3. Save the returned API key in your MCP config and send it as the `Authorization: Bearer` header.

After sign-in, `sign_in` and `verify_code` disappear from the tool list.

## API keys

- `create_api_key` mints a key shown once — store it in your MCP config.
- `list_api_keys` shows ids, names and prefixes (never secrets).
- `revoke_api_key` revokes by prefix.
- Limits: 5 keys on Free, 20 on Pro.
