title: Connect your agent
description: Point your agent at Outer's MCP endpoint — one line per client, OAuth or emailed code.
---

Your agent talks to Outer over MCP at `https://outer.now/mcp` (Streamable HTTP,
OAuth 2.1). The first account tool call starts sign-in. After that the agent
retries and keeps going.

## Client setup

| Client | Setup |
| --- | --- |
| Claude Code | `claude mcp add --transport http outer https://outer.now/mcp`, then run `/mcp` in Claude Code, pick `outer` and sign in in the browser that opens |
| claude.ai, Desktop, mobile | Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector → `https://outer.now/mcp` |
| Codex CLI, IDE, ChatGPT desktop app | `codex mcp add outer --url https://outer.now/mcp`, then `codex mcp login outer` |
| Perplexity | Settings → Connectors → add a custom MCP connector with `https://outer.now/mcp` (tested: OAuth sign-in, then `@Outer build me …`) |
| ChatGPT (chatgpt.com) | Add a custom connector with `https://outer.now/mcp` and sign in (tested) |
| Gemini | Add a custom MCP server with `https://outer.now/mcp` and sign in (tested) |
| Anything else | OAuth if supported, else the emailed-code fallback (see [Sign in](/get-started/sign-in)) |

:::note
Codex may not start OAuth from a mid-session `401`. If sign-in does not start, sign in from a fresh session and
retry the call.
:::

## How sign-in works

Claude, Codex, ChatGPT and Perplexity use OAuth. Your client opens
Outer's sign-in page:

1. Enter your email and the emailed code.
2. Accept the terms on first sign-in.
3. Approve the client.

Clients without OAuth use two MCP tools instead. Details in
[Sign in](/get-started/sign-in).

When a limit or refusal hits, the tool result carries a `user_message`
written for you. Your agent relays it word for word.

## What your agent builds

One of two starters ([Pick a template](/get-started/templates)): the interactive
`app` (Ilha and Void: lists, dashboards, anything with accounts), or the
`website` (Astro content site: landing pages, portfolios, blogs). Name
which one in your first prompt; the default is `app`.

Building it? The agent reads Agents → [Quickstart](/agents/start-here/quickstart).
